Springfield, OH -- The Wittenberg Men's Soccer Team ran away with a victory of 6-0 against the Mount St. Joseph Lions Thursday evening. It didn't take long for the Tigers to collect their first goal at eight and a half minutes into the first half sent from freshman midfielder Marcus Orton to forward junior Andres Mujica - his first of two on the night. The Tigers kept the ball on the Lions' half of the field, goalkeeper Jason Bowen saving the ball only twice with nothing getting passed him into the net. At the 19 minute mark, goal number two was scored by freshman defender Brayden Ring. The Tigers kept it close and physical, totalling 14 fouls and a yellow card from freshman Mustapha Kinteh, while the Lions totaled eight fouls, but had an additional two yellow cards and one red card toward the end of the match.

With 30 seconds left of the first half, junior forward Eric Ward was able to slip another goal in passed the goalkeeper, making it 3-0 going into halftime. This set the tone for the remainder of the match. While the Tigers came out confident in the second, they were playing more offense than defense thus allowing the Lions to gain some momentum. This however was not enough as sophomore Logan Evans sent a cross ball from freshman defender Gabe Porter into the back of the net for goal number four in the 75th minute. No more than 30 seconds later, Mujica strikes again making the score 4-0 assisted by senior defender Gus Esterline

Toward the end of the match, the younger players were able to get playing time and some touches on the ball. The final goal came from sophomore midfielder Bawi Lian with Andres Mujica collecting the assist. The Tigers collectively had 21 shots against the Lions of Mount St. Joseph, while the Lions only had three. All three lines were able to get involved on scoring plays, making for a heavy stat line from the Tigers.

Wittenberg will be back out on the field Saturday at 3 p.m. against the Crusaders of Capital University.
