Men's Soccer Capitalize on Second Win of the Season

Cincinnati, OH -- It was a back and forth battle between the Wittenberg Tigers and the Lions of Mount St. Joseph. The first half was quiet in the back of the net, but was nothing short of exciting on the field. In the first 45, the Tigers and Lions had a toal of 12 shots on goal, eight coming from the Tigers. Junior goaltender Cooper Robertson had sticky gloves in the matchup saving five and only allowing one goal in the 76th minute. Wittenberg and MSJ ended the first 45 minutes drawing one yellow card each, and having a combined seven fouls, with no goals scored.

The second half started out similar to the first, exciting and physical, and also scoreless. The teams continued taking chances, tallying a combined 27 shots on goal. The Tigers hit the back of net first with senior Eli Esterline sending the ball across the front of the net into the front post, knocking it passed the goalie across the line at minute 70. Not two minutes later, the Tigers were once again celebrating scoring their second goal in the 72nd minute by Esterline with an assist from sophomore Logan Evans, scoring in the same manner.

The Lions would answer, getting on the board in the 76th minute, only to remain behind for the rest of the game, giving the Tigers a winning streak of two games.

Wittenberg will be bringing th action back to Edwards-Maurer Filed Saturday September 11 at 1 p.m. against Adrian.
