CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - Eleven shots and four saves added up to a 3-2 win over Wabash for the Wittenberg men's soccer team Wednesday night, sending the Tigers to a 3-8-2 record overall and a winning mark in the North Coast Athletic Conference at 2-1-1.
The Tigers and Little Giants (7-6-1, 2-3-0 NCAC) battled back and forth to a 2-2 tie just five minutes into the second period, a deadlock that would last through most of the final segment. In the 74th minute, Wittenberg broke the stalemate with their third goal off the feet of senior forward Brian Glenn (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy), coming on an assist from Michael Condon (Powell, Ohio/Watterson).
Providing Wittenberg's first goal of the night was junior midfielder Nate Ayres (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) on an assist from sophomore forward Stefan Latham (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central). Wabash evened it at 1-1 shortly thereafter, but the Tigers took their first lead of the night just 1:50 into the second period when freshman midfielder Alejandro Garcia (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis) netted his first collegiate goal with help from Condon. Wabash took only three minutes to retaliate with a tying goal, setting up the 2-2 tie Glenn would later break.
Tiger sophomore netminder Michael Lambeck (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) stopped four Wabash shots, as the Red & White limited the Little Giants to six shots on goal, though Wabash did hold a 13-11 overall shot advantage.
Wittenberg returns to Springfield for their next contest, a 7 p.m. tilt with fellow NCAC member Kenyon on Saturday, Oct. 17.
