Nick Dials joined the Wittenberg men's basketball coaching staff under the direction of Head Coach Darren Hertz prior to the 2024-25 season.
Dials most recently served as an assistant men's basketball coach with the NCAA Division III Capital Comets. In that role, Dials was part of two successful seasons in which the Comets finished toward the top of the nationally competitve Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). In his time at Capital, Dials was hands-on with five All-OAC selections, including Baden Forup (Lexington, Ohio), who was selected Regional Freshman of the Year and second-team All-OAC in his first season of intercollegiate basketball. This added to Dials' stellar record as a recruiter - he has accumulated more than 25 all-coference honors in 10 seasons as a college recruiter.
Prior to that role, Dials was the head coach at Urbana University, trying to build a program from scratch. In his time with Urbana, he oversaw all facets of the program while helping to turn the program around prior to the university's closure. While with the Knights, Nick guided the school's first multi-year all-conference player, two freshmen to all-conference accolades, and coached five players to average double-digit scoring in his final season. Off the court, Dials led his team to complete more than 600 hours of community service work while improving the team's GPA from a 2.6 to 3.1 in the classroom after the completion of his first season.
Before starting at Urbana, Nick held multiple assistant coaching positions with several high-level programs across the Midwest. He spent two seasons on staff at the University of Toledo where he helped mentor six All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) players and four All-MAC Academic recipients. Prior to Toledo, Dials was an assistant for two years at Rogers State where he mentored five all-conference selections and an All-American. Before his two assistant coaching roles, Dials was the Director of Basketball Operations for Miami University and the University of Akron. He got his start in coaching after college with Alderson-Broaddus College. There, he helped the Battlers to a 24-7 record and qualification to the NCAA tournament while only being able to offer a university allotment of seven scholarships. It was at Alderson-Broaddus, in his first recruting class as a collegiate coach, that he signed the Great American Conference's first-ever Player of the Year and All-American (Adam Kline - Winfield, WV) as well as a 2-time all-conference player (Nate Barnes - Cleveland, OH).
A native of Willard, Ohio, Dials is now a member of the Willard High School Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding prep career. Dials went on to play collegiately for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Akron Zips; graduating from Akron as a 1,000-point scorer, a top-5 assist man, and one of the winningest players in school history for the Zips. After graduation, Dials sign a contract to play professionally in Germany, where he led the league in scoring, assists, and efficiency rating.
Dials graduated from the University of Akron in 2008 with a degree in business organization, and he has taken classes toward his master's in recreation and leisure administration from the University of Toledo. He currently resides in West Chester, Ohio.
