Tigers Fall In Home Opener To Rhodes

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Field Hockey team fell in their home opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lynx from Rhodes College 5-2. Rhodes captured an early lead, holding a 2-0 advantage over Wittenberg at the break. Wittenberg would come out firing in the second-half, putting up two quick goals to cut into the Rhoads lead. Meredith Johnson was the first to strike for the Wittenberg offense, slotting the first Tiger goal of the season. Emily Owens made it a one goal game just moments later, capitalizing off the assist from Regan Mazzulli. This was the 10th meeting between the Lynx and the Tigers with the all-time series now standing at 5-5. The last time Wittenberg and Rhodes met was in the 2019 season when the Tigers suffered a tough 1-0 loss at home.

NOTEABLES

  • Emma Hurguy and Caitlin Archdeacon split time in the cage for the Tigers. Hurguy faced five shots on goal making two saves. Archdeacon made four saves against six shots on goal.
  • As a team, Wittenberg tallied six goals on the afternoon placing three on frame.
  • Owens tallied her first collegiate goal.
