Tigers Triumph Over Transylvania

Lexington, KY- Wittenberg headed back down to Kentucky for another non-conference road match. The Tigers took on the Pioneers of Transylvania and looked to improve on their season record after falling in their previous game against Centre. Wittenberg was able to look to senior, Allison Ormsby who put two points up on the board to help get the win in Lexington. The Tigers defeated the Pioneers with a 2-1 score to remain undefeated against Transylvania since 1992, when the teams first met on the field.

Transylvania got on the board in the first quarter but Ormsby was able to tie the game in the second quarter with an assist from Rachel Gesell who picked up her first collegiate point. Wittenberg headed into the half with a 1-1 score.

The third quarter was an even battle with both teams going scoreless to go into the fourth quarter still tied 1-1. Ormsby came back in the fourth with her third goal of the season off of an assist from Regan Mazzulli. Mazzulli's assist gave her a third collegiate point and her first collegiate assist. In goal for the Red & White was Emma Hurguy who faced four shots on goal and was able to make three saves. The junior goalie sits at a .615 percent save rate on the season with a total of eight saves.

Head Coach, Bronwen Gainsford said "at the half we talked about passing and carrying to space. We also talked about drawing fouls. The team did a great job adjusting, especially with drawing the fouls and earning six corners in the second half." Wittenberg led in statistics with nine shots, four saves, eight penalty corners, and were able to draw 23 fouls from Transylvania.
