Collegiate Firsts Lead to First Game Victory

Danville, Kentucky- Wittenberg headed down to Kentucky for two road matches this weekend. They opened their season against the Sewanee with a 3-2 victory to start the year off 1-0.

Sewanee was able to get on the board first with two goals but Wittenberg answered back in the second quarter with Freshman, Victoria Pipinich scoring unassisted. This marked Pipinich's first collegiate goal to take the Tigers into the half with a one goal difference.

Senior, Allison Ormsby tallied her tenth career goal in the third quarter to tie the game 2-2 with another unassisted goal for the Red & White. Wittenberg was able to carry the momentum in the fourth quarter, scoring the final goal of the game from Freshman Katie Webber. Webber joined Pipinich with her first collegiate goal which gave the Tigers their first win of the 2021 season.

Head Coach, Bronwen Gainsford said "Today was an exciting game. The result came from a full team effort and a lot of perseverance and composure. It was great to see each class step up into key roles throughout the game. I am excited to watch the growth and development of our young squad."
