Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University field hockey standouts Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and Mallory Skrobot (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) have earned 2012 All-Great Lakes Region honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
Morrissey, a senior midfielder, was a first-team selection and Skrobot, a junior defender, was a second-team honoree. Both will now be considered for NFHCA All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.
Morrissey, who played in the prestigious NFHCA Division III Senior Game on Nov. 17 at William Smith College, led the Tigers offensively with six goals and one assist for 13 total points. She was Wittenberg's lone senior in 2012, and she played an important role in guiding a young team to a strong finish as one of its captains. After a 2-11 start, the Tigers finished the campaign with four wins in their last five games to finish 6-12 overall and 5-9 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
Morrissey earned first-team All-NCAC honors in 2012, following back-to-back seasons on the second team. The all-region award is her second in a row, following a second-team nod earned in 2011.
She is also a standout and three-year starter in the midfield for the Tiger women's lacrosse team. Morrissey has picked up first-team all-conference awards in that sport each following the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Skrobot, who also served as a team captain in 2012, emerged as a leader for the Tigers' defense in her second season in the program, recording five of the team's six defensive saves during the season. Key among them were a pair of clutch defensive saves in the season-ending overtime win over Ohio Wesleyan.
The all-region award is the first of Skrobot's collegiate career, following second-team All-NCAC honors earned last week. Also a standout defender for the Tiger women's lacrosse team, Skrobot earned honorable mention all-conference in that sport last spring.
