Press Release: Rachel Dunn Earns All-America Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — For the 2006 Wittenberg field hockey team, there was always one constant - the sight of senior midfielder/defender Rachel Dunn, class of 2007 from Pittsburgh, Pa., flying around the field, making plays on both offense and defense that led her team to records of 11-7 overall and 9-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

In recognition of Dunn's efforts, she earned third-team All-America honors. The national recognition was the first of Dunn's career in the Red & White. She was a four-time All-NCAC honoree, including a pair of first-team awards, and Dunn added first-team All-Great Lakes Region honors in 2006.

Dunn was a four-year starter for the Tigers. She was a tenacious defensive player on a unit that recorded four shutouts on the season, and she added career-highs of three goals, including back-to-back game-winners against Oberlin and Denison on Sept. 23 and 26 respectively, 10 assists and 16 total points. Her 10 assists led the team.

The Wittenberg field hockey program has not had a losing season since 1980 and is one of just two NCAC squads to reach the conference tournament in each of the five years it has been played. Head Coach Diana Kuser has a two-year record of 21-15 leading the program, including a mark of 17-7 in NCAC play.
