SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Wittenberg University field hockey standouts
Emily Duh (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) and
Rebecca Russ (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) have
been selected to participate in the National Field Hockey Coaches
Association Division III North/South Senior All-Star game. It is a
prestigious annual event to be held at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov.
23, on the campus of Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
Duh is a forward who put together one of the finest seasons in
school history in 2002. She participated in 76 games in her career
and started the last 67, dating back to Oct. 12, 1999. She scored
43 goals and added 20 assists in her career, both of which put her
in the top three in school history. Her 106 career points are the
third-most in school history, trailing only two-time All-Americans
Amy Kraus and Jo-El Miller. In 2002, Duh scored a school-record 60
total points on a school-record-tying 26 goals and eight
assists.
Duh is a three-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection
and a two-time Great Lakes Regional All-America selection,
including 2002. She also was voted team offensive MVP in 2000 and
2001, and earned recognition for her accomplishments in the
classroom on the National Academic Squad each of the last two
years.
Russ is a sweeper who will go down in the Wittenberg annals as one
of the finest defensive player ever to don a Tiger uniform. She
played in 72 total games over the last four years, including 60
consecutive as a starter. In the last four years, Russ played more
total minutes than any other Tiger player.
Russ recorded 20 career defensive saves, tops in school history.
She also scored two goals and six assists in her career on 40
shots. A three-time All-NCAC and a three-time Great Lakes Regional
All-America choice, Russ was the team’s defensive MVP in 2000
and overall MVP in 2001, as voted by her teammates. She became just
the fifth Tiger player to earn national All-America status when she
was named third-team in 2001.
The Wittenberg Tigers finished the 2002 with a 17-4 overall
record, including a 10-2 mark in the NCAC. Wittenberg, ranked No.
13 in the final NFHCA poll and No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region, won
the regular season conference title and then captured the
first-ever NCAC tournament crown with a 6-2 victory over defending
champion Wooster on Nov. 9. The Tigers’ season came to a
conclusion with a 3-0 loss to Williams College in the second round
of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Nov. 15.
