SPRINGFIELD, OH - The Wittenberg Tigers scored early and scored often against visiting Oberlin College. And a lot of different players got into the action in a 77-0 victory, the Tigers' largest margin of victory since a 77-0 win over Hiram in 2002.
Wittenberg, which has won 25 straight games in the series against Oberlin, improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), while Oberlin fell to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the league. The Yeomen haven't beaten Wittenberg since 1954.
After forcing a three-and-out on Oberlin's first series, the Tiger offense put together a nine-play, 68-yard drive that was capped by a 20-yard touchdown run from quarterback Jayden Miller (Amelia, OH / Williamsburg). That started the scoring landslide for Wittenberg as Miller threw touchdown passes of 32 yards to Eric Rasheed (Fletcher, NC / Hendersonville) and 67 yards to Kade Ray (Sun City Central, FL / Jule F. Sumner) to widen the margin by the opening seconds of the second quarter.
Miller went on to complete 14-of-21 passes for 249 yards and five touchdowns, and he rushed for 100 yards and another score on just six carries. Stephen Lauterbach (Oakwood, OH / Oakwood) and Max Milton (Carmel, IN / Heritage Christian) both were a perfect 3-of-3 with one passing touchdown in the game, and Christian Manville (Westerville, OH / New Albany) added 81 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries out of the backfield. Through the air, six different players caught touchdown passes, led by Troy Teepe (Brookville, IN / East Central) with two.
Defensively, Wittenberg racked up four sacks among 10 tackles for loss in the game. Cameron Snurr (Springboro, OH / Springboro), Dalton Allen (Delaware, OH / Hayes), Charlie Grier (Atlanta, GA / North Atlanta), and Eli Renick (Sarasota, FL / Riverview) each finished with two tackles for loss, and Tyler VanMeter (New Albany, OH / New Albany) contributed a pick-six for the Tigers' final points of the game.
Wittenberg finished with 653 yards oif total offense, compared to 93 yards for Oberlin. The Yeomen managed just one third-down conversion in 14 attempts.
Next up for Wittenberg is the 2024 home finale against Wabash on Saturday, November 9. That game will serve as Senior Recognition Day. The Tigers will then close out the season with a road trip to Wooster on November 16 and a road trip to Hiram on November 23 to make up a game that was originally scheduled for September 21 but was postponed due to threats that were made to Wittenberg's campus.
