Rick Gold returns to Wittenberg as an assistant coach for the 2018 season working primarily with the outfielders.  Coach Gold has enjoyed a long and storied career in high school, college and youth league baseball around the Miami Valley region. During his 40 plus years in coaching, Coach Gold has earned many accomplishments and accolades along the way including selection and inductions to the Miami East HS Athletic Hall of Fame, the Miami Valley Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, and the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. 

Coach Gold started his coaching career at Miami East High School where he was the head coach from 1974-1984.  While at MEHS Gold’s teams won six conference championships, and advanced to the regional tournament twice.  Following his impressive run at Miami East, Gold became the Head Coach at nearby Piqua High School from 1985-2003 where he won more than 300 games, 4 conference titles, and earned two more regional appearances.  After much success at the high school level Coach Gold decided to accept an assistant coaching position at the collegiate level at nearby Wittenberg University where he spent the next 8 seasons from 2004-2011 helping guide the Tigers baseball program.  In 2012 Coach Gold returned to the high school level taking on the role as the head skipper at Russia High School until 2014.  In his three seasons at Russia, his clubs won three conference championships and advanced to a regional final.  Most recently, Gold has been assisting with local high school teams, as well as working with the prolific Dayton Sluggers summer organization.  Coach Rick Gold had also spent 13 of his summers as the head coach of the Piqua Post 184 team.  His teams amassed over 400 wins and appeared in 9 state legion tournaments. 

Gold sent over 75 former players on to play college baseball and had six drafted professionally including ­­­two players that made it to the “big leagues”…Joey Long/San Diego Padres from Graham High School and Craig Stammen/Washington Nationals from Versailles High School. 

A native of St. Paris, OH, Gold graduated from Graham HS where he lettered in football and baseball, and he earned his Bachelor's Degree from Ohio Northern University in 1973, while lettering in baseball three years, He received his Master's Degree in Education from Wright State in 1988.

Gold currently resides outside Piqua, Ohio with his wife Cynthia. They have three children; Joshua, Alicia and Sarah and seven grandchildren: Madilyn, Evelyn, and Jocelyn, Emelia, Cora, Isabelle, and Vincent.
