Former Wittenberg standout catcher Matt Steinke dons the Red & White again in 2012 in his first year as an assistant coach. A 2008 graduate of Wittenberg, Steinke will work with the Tigers’ catching corps.
Steinke earned three varsity letters after transferring to Wittenberg prior to his sophomore year, leading the Tigers in multiple offensive categories. He became a two-year team captain and made two straight appearances on the All-NCAC first team.
Following his senior year, Steinke’s hard work in the classroom and on the field earned him second team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Steinke was a career .328 hitter with the Tigers and maintained a .982 fielding percentage, including marks of .372 at the plate and .994 behind it on just one error in 178 chances during his senior year.
Steinke currently resides in Springfield. Steinke worked with the Wittenberg Baseball coaching staff for three years.
