SPRINGFIELD, OH - After pounding eight hits, including four home runs, and collecting 10 runs batted in across four games last week, Rocco Royer (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) has been selected to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week that was announced on Wednesday, March 26.
The D3Baseball.com Team of the Week is an honor roll that recognizes the top performers at each of the nine positions on the field from the previous week. It is now in its 14th season, and Royer is one of the players selected to the sixth Team of the Week of the 2025 season, representing games played March 17-23.
Royer's week started off with a rare game out of the lineup in what turned out to be a 17-3 win over Wilmington on Tuesday, March 18. A well-rested Royer then terrorized Adrian's pitching staff over a three-game series that started with a road game on Friday, March 21, and continued with a doubleheader at Carleton Davidson Stadium on Saturday, March 22.
In the series opener, Royer went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, highlighted by a home run in a 10-5 Tiger victory. In Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, Royer stayed hot, with two hits in his five plate appearances, including a home run, while scoring two runs and driving in another as the Tigers picked up a 12-4 decision. The final game of the series was a slugfest won by Adrian, 19-14, as Royer went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, hitting two home runs, scoring four times, and rounding up six RBIs.
For the season, Royer is batting .316, with an on-base percentage of .400 and a slugging percentage of .561. He ranks second on the team with four home runs - all hit against Adrian over the weekend - and he ranks among the team leaders in runs scored (17) and RBIs (14). As a team, the Tigers are batting .329 and have hit 21 home runs on the season, leading to a run differential of 159-84 over the first 18 games of the 2025 season.
After beating Wilmington, 10-2, on Tuesday, March 25, and perennial powerhouse Marietta, 7-3, on Wednesday, March 26, the Tigers have plenty of momentum heading into their first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) games of the 2025 season at DePauw on Saturday, March 29. Wittenberg, picked to finish second in the NCAC preseason coaches poll, brings a 13-5 overall record into the conference campaign.
