Baseball falls 7-1 at Adrian in final non-conference game of season

ADRIAN, Mich. — The Wittenberg baseball team fell 7-1 at Adrian on Sunday in its final non-conference game of the 2024 season.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (21-14 overall), Adrian (23-13 overall)
  • Venue: Nicolay Field - Adrian, Mich.
  • Adrian swept a doubleheader against Wittenberg in Springfield earlier this season with wins of 5-4 and 5-3.

Stat Leaders

  • Sophomore Tommy Chilicki (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) led the Wittenberg offense with two hits, including a double.
  • Junior Jalen Williams (Catonsville, Md./Western Tech) tallied a triple with an RBI.
  • Juniors Ben Seibert (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) and Josh Bobey (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and sophomore Andrew Kirkpatrick (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) had one hit each.
  • Sophomore Andrew Rust (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) got the pitching start for the Tigers and allowed two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four.
  • Nic Bruder led the Adrian offense with two hits, including a triple, to go with two RBIs and one run.

The Game

  • Wittenberg scored its lone run of the game after freshman Xander Rodriguez (Salinas, P.R./Franklin County) drew a one-out walk in the top of the second inning. Williams followed with a home run but was ruled to have not touched home plate after rounding the bases, giving the Tigers just one run on what was officially ruled a triple.
  • Adrian took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning an RBI double and RBI single and continued adding to it throughout the remainder of the game.
  • The Bulldogs scored one run in the sixth inning and four more in the eighth.
  • The Tigers got runners on first and second via back-to-back one-out singles from Bobey and Kirkpatrick in the bottom of the ninth. The runners advanced to second and third on a passed ball but were stranded on the bases to end the game.
  • Adrian out-hit Wittenberg by a 7-6 margin and committed no errors to the Tigers' one.

  • Senior Matt Moore (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) has 154 hits, 22 doubles and 119 RBIs in his career. He ranks fourth all-time in RBIs and is 12 hits and 14 doubles shy of breaking into the program's all-time top 10 in those categories.
  • Senior Conor O'Malley (Avon, Ohio/St. Edward's) has 154 hits, 33 doubles, 17 home runs, 118 RBIs, 119 runs scored in his career. He is tied for fourth all-time at Wittenberg in home runs, ranks fifth in RBIs and is 12 hits, three doubles and four runs shy of breaking into the program's all-time top 10 in those categories.
  • Senior Luke Thomas (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) has 137 hits and 33 doubles in his career. He is 29 hits and three doubles shy of breaking into the program's all-time top 10 in those categories.
