SPRINGFIELD — Wittenberg freshman Xander Rodriguez (Salinas, P.R./Franklin County) was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 15-21.

The marks the first such honor of Rodriguez's career, and it comes after he put together an impressive week at the plate in helping lead Wittenberg as it extended its current win streak to 11 games.

In a 6-0 week for the Tigers, Rodriguez batted .444, going a combined 8-for-18 with one home run and two doubles to go with 11 RBIs, five runs scored, seven walks and one stolen base. He provided the game-winning hit in two conference victories with a 2-RBI single in the top of the ninth inning of a 7-6 win at Wabash and a two-run home run in the top of the ninth of a 5-4 win at Ohio Wesleyan.

In all, the week included doubleheader sweeps of Wabash and Ohio Wesleyan on the road and non-conference wins over Capital and Bluffton in Springfield.

On the season, Rodriguez has a .361 batting average with a team-high 42 RBIs, and his six home runs are tied for the team lead. A first baseman, he ranks second in the NCAC in RBIs and is tied for fourth in home runs.

The Tigers (20-12 overall, 9-1 NCAC) return to action on Saturday hosting an NCAC doubleheader against No. 2 Denison beginning at 12 p.m.
