SPRINGFIELD — Wittenberg senior Luke Thomas (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25.
The recognition comes after he had a stellar opening week at the plate during a three-game series at Ferrum, batting .714 and slugging .929. He totaled 10 hits in 14 at-bats with three doubles, three RBIs, seven runs scored and two stolen bases. Defensively at second base, he recorded three putouts and 10 assists.
In Saturday's doubleheader, he was 4-for-5 with a double, RBI, three runs and a steal in a 14-10 loss and was 4-for-4 with two doubles, one walk, two RBIs, three runs and a steal in a 13-4 win.
In Wittenberg's 8-5 win on Sunday, he was 2-for-5 with one walk and one run.
On Tuesday, Thomas was also named the North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-25.
Thomas now has 110 hits and 27 doubles in his career. He is 56 hits and nine doubles shy of breaking into the program's all-time top 10 in those categories.
The Tigers return to action on Friday at Methodist at 4 p.m. for the first of three games in three days in the Methodist Invitational.
