Tigers Sweep Wooster From The Road

Wooster, OH – For the first time since 1996 the Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team swept the College of Wooster Fighting Scots. Wittenberg took game one by way of a 5-3 decision, collecting 14 hits to get the day started. The Tigers completed the sweep of the Scots with a 7-3 game two win, holding Wooster scoreless from the third through the eighth inning. Wittenberg added 13 hits to their total without an error for the second game in a row.

Matt Moore went 3 for 5 from the plate to get the day started, leading the Tiger offense. Four other Tigers added multiple hits in the opener. Chase Whisner, Conor O'Malley, Ian Ash and James MacAuley each added two hits.

Wittenberg got the scoring started in the second inning with an Ash single through the right side, scoring Michael Bronowski. Whisner drove in the second run of the inning for the Tigers, with a single to left, making it 2-0 Wittenberg. Parker Gryskevich added to the Wittenberg advantage with an RBI single to right in the top of the third, scoring Moore. MacAuley provided the final two insurance runs in the fifth inning with a two-RBI single through the left side.

Nick Cunningham earned his third win of the season, with 6.2 innings pitched. Cunningham allowed two hits with two runs allowed and three strikeouts. Justin Maynard secured his second save of the season with one inning pitched and no hits allowed.

Whisner, O'Malley and Moore continued their hot hitting in game two as each tallied a pair of hits in the final game of the doubleheader. Leadoff hitter, Luke Thomas went 3 for 4 from the plate in game two.

Wooster opened the scoring in the series finale, taking a 2-0 advantage after two innings. Wittenberg responded with a three-run rally in the third inning. The Tigers added to the advantage with one more in the fifth and two more in the sixth. The ninth would see one run for each the Tigers and the Scots cross home.

Michael Osmond secured his third win of the season, improving to 3-0. With seven innings pitched, Osmond allowed five hits with two runs and eight strikeouts. Kyle Mahon closed out the final innings with three hits allowed and two strikeouts.
