Tigers Overwhelm Heidelberg in Midweek Showdown

Tiffin, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team picked up their 14th win of the season with an 18-4 route over Heidelberg University. For the second consecutive game, the Tiger offense collected 20 hits. The Wittenberg pitching staff had a commanding day from the hill, holding the Student Princes to just seven hits. Nate Floyd earned his third win of the season, improving to 3-1. Floyd tossed six innings pitched with all five Tiger strikeouts.

Michael Bronowski and Ian Ash swung the hot bats, with four hits apiece. Ash tallied three doubles and Bronowski added one, with Wittenberg smacking 10 doubles on the day.

The Tiger offense wasted no time getting started, posting five runs in the first inning. Matt Moore drove in the first Wittenberg run with a single to left, plating James MacAuley. Bronowski drove in his first two RBI of the day with a single down the line in left. Ash capped off the rally with his first double of the day, driving in the final two Tiger runs of the first inning.

Wittenberg added two more doubles in the offensive half of the third innings, starting with a Parker Gryskevic two-bagger into right, scoring Ben Seibert. Ash smashed his second double of the game, this time going the opposite direction and sending a two-RBI shot into left, making it, 8-0 Tigers.

After Heidelberg stole two runs back in the third inning. The Wittenberg offense erupted with a seven-run fifth-inning rally. The Tiger fifth inning tallied four more doubles for Wittenberg. Starting the scoring off was back-to-back extra-base hits from Chase Whisner and Conor O'Malley. After a single by Moore extended the Tiger advantage back out to 10 runs. Ash tallied his third double of the day and his final two of six RBI. Luke Thomas drove in the final run of fifth inning, trading places with Ash at second, with the fourth Wittenberg double of the inning.

The Wittenberg offense wasn't going away quite yet. The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth and a final in the ninth, to secure the 18-4 win.
