Tiger Baseball Takes Down Oglethorpe In Final Game of Series

Atlanta, GA – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball rounded out their trip with a 14-5, game three win over the Stormy Petrels from Oglethorpe. The Tigers tallied 16 hits in their final game from the Peach State. After a scoreless first inning by both sides, Wittenberg would go on to score in every inning to follow.

Matt Moore had a day at the plate, going 5 for 5, including a double and home run for four RBI and two runs scored.

Maxwell Monachino ripped three singles in five plate appearances with two runs scored and one run scored in the final game of the series. Ben Seibert was the final Tiger to tally multiple hits on the afternoon, going 2 for 4 and coming in for two Wittenberg runs.

After reaching on an error by the Oglethorpe center fielder in the fourth inning, Rocco Royer launched a two-run homer in the fifth inning for his lone hit of the day. Royer followed Moore's lead in the fifth, after Moore went deep to left, extending the Tiger lead, 6-4.

Andrew Rust got the start on the mound for the Tigers, putting in three innings of work. Rust allowed four hits with three strikeouts and four runs allowed. Justin Maynard would come on to secure the win with 3.2 innings pitched, allowing seven hits and striking out a game-leading five batters. Alex Nemunaitis  and Connor Goss each came in for an inning of relief work, each allowing one hit and striking out two.

Wittenberg will return to the Buckeye State, traveling to Heidelberg University on Tuesday, March 14 for a 3:45 contest.
