Wittenberg Baseball Drops Two Games Against Oglethorpe

Atlanta, GA – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team fell to the Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels, 6-0, in their first game of a three-game series. The Tigers tallied nine hits to Oglethorpe's 10 on the day. Leading the Tiger offensive effort in the first game, James MacAuley and Chase Whisner each posted three hits apiece.

With each side posting 10 hits in the second game of the series. Oglethorpe escaped with the 10-9, game two win. The two sides traded blows, beginnings with a three-run first inning by Wittenberg.

Whisner kept his bat hot from the first game of the series, opening up with a RBI single to left and scoring MacAuley for the first Tiger run. Conor O'Malley launched a two-run homer over the fence in right-center, extending the Wittenberg lead, 3-0. Oglethorpe responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the second to even the score, 3-3.

Wittenberg regained the lead, plating one run each in the third, fifth and sixth inning. Matt Moore drove in Whisner with a single to right. Moving into the fifth inning, Ben Seibert singled to right, adding to the Tiger advantage and bringing home O'Malley.

Oglethorpe would go on to bring things back to even, after stealing one run back in the sixth and two runs in the eighth.

It was a new ballgame, starting a 6-6, Wittenberg regained the lead with Caleb Fogerty executing the sacrifice bunt to bring home Seibert for the seventh Tiger run. Maxwell Monachino battled through his at-bat for a single up the middle, scoring Connor Goss, extending the Wittenberg lead, 8-6. A double by MacAuley to right center scored Monachino, putting Wittenberg ahead, 9-6. Oglethorpe responded with four runs with their final at bat of the second game, taking the 10-9 win.
