Tigers Split Road Series With Capital

Bexley, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger baseball team split their final non-conference road series of the season. The Tiger's fell in game one at Capital, 8-5. Wittenberg responded in game two with an impressive 9-3 win over the Comets. Wittenberg collected 20 hits in the series, putting up 10 a game on the Comets.

Though the Tigers were able to strike first putting up two runs in during their first at-bat. Capital would respond with four runs of their own to steal back the advantage. In the fourth inning Connor O'Malley cut into the Capital lead with an RBI double down the line in right to score Chase Whisner. O'Malley would finish 3 for 4 in game one with a pair of doubles. Brining the game back to even at 4-4, Luke Thomas drove in Parker Gryskevic on the grounder to the right side. A back and forth fifth and sixth would keep the game tied at 5-5, before a three-run sixth pushed Capital ahead.

Jack Siefert would leadoff game two with a three-run homer for the Tigers. Wittenberg carried the scoring rally into the second inning, adding four more to their total. Gabe Stacy would get the second inning rally started with an RBI single up the middle. Whisner kept the momentum going with a single through the left side to score Stacy. Matt Moore capped off the rally with a two-RBI shot into right, plating O'Malley and Whisner. Capital found their way onto the board in the third and fourth innings, putting up three runs. Wittenberg posted two more insurance runs in the fifth inning, coming from the bat of Moore in the form of a two-RBI single to left.

Josh Moore picked up the win for Wittenberg in game two. Moore pitched five innings with five hits allowed and four strikeouts. The Tiger's saw appearances from Matt Shanor and Mitchell Davis each putting in an inning of work and logging a strikeout.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, April 30, hosting the Allegheny College Gators for Senior Day. First pitch is set for Noon.
