Tiger Baseball Gets Big Road Sweep At Kenyon

Gambier, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger baseball team picked up two crucial NCAC wins, picking up a road sweep over the Lords from Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers took game one by a final score, 7-5. After fending of a late Kenyon rally in game-one, Wittenberg would go on to take game two in eight innings, 10-0. The Tigers collected 20 hits on the afternoon with Gabe Stacy launching a pair of homeruns on the day with one in each game. Parker Gryskevich added a longball for the Tigers in game two. Chase Whisner tallied five RBI between the two Wittenberg wins on the day.

Wittenberg held Kenyon scoreless through the first three innings of action, while plating two in their first trip to the plate. Stacy struck first with a homer to center field. Conor O'Malley pushed the second Wittenberg run across in the first, scoring Austin Morrow. Whisner drove in three with a single to center, in the fourth inning. Whisner would be thrown out at second trying to advance to second. After Kenyon stole a run back in the fourth, Jack Siefert drove in O'Malley to keep the lead at five, 6-1. Taking advantage of a Tiger fielding error in the eighth, Kenyon would cut the Wittenberg lead to within one at 6-5. Jared Burick added to the Tiger lead in the top of the ninth with an RBI double down the line in right, scoring Luke Thomas.

Nick Cunningham got the start for Wittenberg, tossing 3.1 innings with four hits and one run allowed with one strikeout. Justin Maynard came on to earn his eighth win of the season, striking out four and three hits allowed. Joe Horoszko earned his first save of the season, with 1.1 innings on the hill and no runs allowed and one strikeout.

The Tiger offense came out swinging early in game two, putting up four in the first and five in the second. O'Malley and Matt Moore ripped back-to-back RBI singles through the left side, putting the Tiger's ahead 2-0. A sacrifice fly by Burick added a third Wittenberg run on the inning. Luke Thomas added the final run of the inning with a single down the line in left. Fort the second time, Stacy sent a solo homerun, this time to left field and putting Wittenberg ahead 5-0. Siefert doubled down the right field line, adding two more to the Tiger advantage. Gryskevich got in on the longball action, with a two-run shot to left center for the final Wittenberg runs of the inning. Whisner tallied his final RBI of the day and sealed the win for Wittenberg, scoring Maxwell Monachino to put the Tigers ahead, 10-0.

Austin Luther earned the win with 7.0 innings on the hill for Wittenberg, allowing five hits and striking out eight.

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, April 27 returning home to take on Heidelberg College. First pitch is set for 6:00 pm.
