Tigers Finalize Sweep Of Wabash In Delayed Game Two

Westfield, IN – The Wittenberg Tiger baseball team closed out their series with the Wabash Little Giants on Thursday evening from Grant Park in Westfield, IN. Wittenberg overwhelmed the Little Giants out of the gates to the tune of a 10-4 victory. The Wittenberg offense collected 13 hits from eight different batters. Tiger's that tallied multiple hits on the evening included, Chase Whisner and Matt Moore with three hits apiece and Gabe Stacy adding two. With this win, the Tigers improve to 17-5 on the season and 5-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Tiger offense got on the board first, plating two runs in the first inning. Wabash was able to steal one back cutting the Wittenberg lead in half after their first at-bat. A five-run third-inning ignited the Tiger offense, starting with an RBI double from Moore and bringing around Stacy. Jack Siefert continued the rally with a single through the right side to bring home Whisner, making it a 4-1 ballgame. A Conor O'Malley groundout RBI plated the third Tiger run of the inning. Ian Ash and Ben Seibert ripped shots through the right and left sides of the Wabash defense, closing out the inning with a 7-1 lead. The Little Giants responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Tiger defense would hold Wabash scoreless from the fourth through the sixth. Wittenberg closed out their night by adding two more runs in the sixth inning, Stacy started it off with a two-RBI triple down the line in right. Whisner pushed the final Wittenberg run across with a bunt single to score Stacy.

Justin Maynard tossed 6.2 innings, earning his sixth win of the season. On the night, Maynard allowed just five hits, one run and struck out six with just one walk.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, April 16, hosting the Oberlin College Yeomen. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm from Carleton Davidson Stadium.
