Tigers Sweep Terriers From The Road

Oberlin, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger baseball team swept the Terriers of Hiram College with back-to-back shutout victories from the road on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers started the day with a 10-0 seven-inning victory over the Terriers. Wittenberg completed the sweep of Hiram with 2-0 defeat in game two. The Tigers tallied 22 hits on the day with 14 hits coming in game one against the Terriers. Wittenberg collected six extra-base hits in the first game, with Chase Whisner smacking a pair of doubles on his way to a 4 for 5 start to the day.

Wittenberg started the day by scoring thee runs in the first inning and adding two more to their lead in the second. Matt Moore started the scoring with a two-RBI double to left, plating Whisner and Gabe Stacy. Conor O'Malley followed up with a double of his own, trading places with Moore for the Tiger's third run of the inning. Whisner ripped his first double of the day with a two-RBI shot into left center, scoring Ben Seibert and Dylan Jackson, extending the Wittenberg lead, 5-0. Scoring one run in the third, adding three more in the fifth. The Tiger's three-run scoring rally was capped off by Whisner's RBY double into left, scoring Stacy.

Joe Horoszko pitched the complete game seven-inning shutout for the Tigers. Horoszko earned his fourth win of the season, with just three hits allowed, while striking out seven Hiram hitters.

The Tigers kept Hiram off the board once again in game two, spacing out their scoring efforts between the first and eighth innings.  Gabe Stacy put together a 2 for 3 game two, scoring the go-ahead run in the eighth inning off the double down the line in left from Austin Morrow. Austin Luther went the distance on the mound for the Tigers, with nine innings pitched. Luther earned his second win of the season, with just three hits allowed and seven strikeouts.

Wittenberg will return to action on Wednesday, April 13, hosting the Bluffton Beavers from Carleton Davidson Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
