Tigers Run MSJ Out Springfield In Seven Innings

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger baseball team returned to Carleton Davidson Stadium on Thursday night, hosting the Lions from Mt. St. Joseph University. The Tigers posted a 12-2 seven-inning win over the Lions, collecting 11 hits on the evening. Jack Siefert, Gabe Stacy and Jared Burick all tallied multiple hits for the Tigers. Siefert launched his third homer of the season into the trees in center.

Wittenberg opened up the evening with a four-run first inning, batting around the order to get the night started. Burick drove in the first Tiger run with a single to left. Conor O'Malley followed suit with a shot into center, scoring Burick and giving Wittenberg a 2-0 advantage. Siefert drove his third homerun into straight away center field, capping off the rally with the Tigers ahead, 4-0. After two MSJ runs crossed in the top of the third, the Tigers took one back on the Burick sacrifice fly to center, scoring Lane Johnson to make it a 5-2 ballgame.

Holding a 5-2 lead after a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, the Wittenberg offense broke the game open with three runs in the sixth and four in seventh, securing the 12-2 win.

Nate Floyd got the start on the mound for the Tigers, going five innings with four hits allowed and three strikeouts. Floyd picked up his second win of the season, moving to 2-0. Charlie Schafer picked up the save for the Tiger ball club, with two innings of work, allowing one hit and fanning one.

The Tigers will return to action on Sunday, April 10 taking on Hiram College. This game will be played at Dill Field in Oberlin, Ohio. First pitch between the Tigers and Terriers is scheduled for 11 a.m.
