Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger baseball team continued their winning ways with a sweep of the Defiance College Yellow Jackets in two seven-inning games on Wednesday evening from Carleton Davidson Stadium. Wittenberg outscore Defiance 25-6 through the two games, taking game one by a final score of 14-3 and game two with a score of 11-3. The Tiger offense tallied double-digit hits in both games, posting 15 hits in game one and following up with 13 in the final game of the doubleheader.

The Tigers put on a homerun derby in game one, with Jack Siefert and Conor O'Malley going deep in their second consecutive games for the Tigers. Chase Whisner and Dylan Jackson got in on the longball action, with Whisner going deep for the second time this season and Jackson for the first. After a scoreless first inning, Wittenberg put up crooked numbers second, third, fifth and sixth innings. The Tiger onslaught of scoring came in both the third and sixth innings, where the home side put up five runs each time. Charlie Schafer picked up his first win of the season, with 2.1 innings pitched. Schafer struck out two Defiance batters with just one hit allowed against 10 Yellow Jackets faced. Tarrus Garrett made his Wittenberg debut on the mound in the final inning, allowing just two hits and fanning two.

Wittenberg kept the momentum rolling into game two, as Lane Johnson joined the home run party with two of his own. The Tigers posted two runs in the second inning to take the early lead, before a six-run fourth inning gave them an 8-3 advantage. It was homers from Johnson at the start of both offensive innings that would ignite the Tiger scoring efforts. Adding to the fourth inning barrage of scoring was a three-RBI double from Siefert. O'Malley added to the effort, bringing around Siefert with a single into left before Whisner ripped a double into center, scoring O'Malley. The power of the Tiger line-up did it again in the sixth inning, with Siefert, O'Malley and Whisner going double-single-double adding three more runs to the Wittenberg advantage. Justin Maynard earned his third win of the season, improving to 3-0 on the season. Maynard put in 3.0 innings of work, facing 10 Defiance hitters allowing just one hit and striking out four.
