Tiger Offense Erupts Against Earlham

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger baseball team returned home on Tuesday evening, playing their first of five home games on the week. The Tiger bats were hot on a chilly night at Carleton Davidson Stadium, as Wittenberg tallied 13 hits leading to a 10-5 win over the visiting Earlham College Quakers.

The scoring started early for the Tigers, as Wittenberg was able to take a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first. Matt Moore slapped a single into left field, forcing an early Earlham error on the night, allowing Gabe Stacy and Austin Morrow to come around and score. The Tigers would bat around in the second inning, as Moore started the rally off with a two-RBI single down the line in right, extending the Wittenberg lead to 4-0. Wittenberg went deep with back-to-back bombs coming from Jack Siefert and Connor O'Malley pushed the Tiger lead to 8-0. Earlham would begin to chip away at the Wittenberg advantage throughout the third and fourth, as the Tigers held an 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. A passed ball on the ball four pitch to Dylan Jackson in the bottom of the fourth gave Wittenberg a run back, as Siefert came in to score on the heads-up base running. After two Earlham runs scored in the fifth, O'Malley added one more hit to his tally on the night, driving in Morrow for the final Wittenberg run.

Austin Luther toed the rubber to start the game for the Tigers, going 2.1 innings on limited pitches. Cole Weaver earned his first win of the season, tossing 3.1 innings with one hit allowed and four strikeouts. Nick Cunningham closed out the final inning, fanning one Earlham batter without a hit allowed.
