Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg University baseball team hosted the Wabash College Little Giants for the final two games of their four-game slate on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers took game one from Wabash by way of a 4-1 final. Wittenberg battled the elements through game two, as rain forced a delay in the action in the middle of the top of the third inning before an eventual pause was put on the game for the day.

Before getting the action started on the diamond, the Wittenberg baseball program celebrated their Class of 2021 seniors, along with welcoming back their Class of 2020 seniors from a year ago. The Tigers honored their 13 seniors; Tanner Boros, Gage Carpenter, Jeff Chonko, Mason Davis, Tanner Griggs, Rusty Hayhurst, Jack Hollinshead, AJ Juelg, Patrick Kenny, Ryan Probst, Parker Thompson, Jack Siefert and Gabe Stacy ahead of the action with the Little Giants.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg was the first to strike, plating two runs in the second inning and adding two more in the third. Boros stole third with the aggressive baserunning and advanced home on the missed throw by the Little Giants. An RBI single by Chase Whisner to right brought home Probst for the second Wittenberg run of the inning. Wabash was able to cut into the Tiger advantage, scoring their first and only run of game one. Hollinshead ignited the Wittenberg scoring in the third, hitting his 13th home run of the season, going deep to left field, and putting the Tigers ahead 3-1. Siefert came home to score the Tiger's fourth run of game one as Carpenter executed the sacrifice fly to left. Griggs earned the seven-inning complete-game win, allowing just five hits and surrendering one run with four strikeouts.

The Tigers were back on the offensive again in game two, starting with a two-run RBI single from Siefert, bringing around Davis and Hollinshead.
