Tigers Suffer Tough Loss At Case Western

Cleveland, OH – The Wittenberg University baseball team suffered a pair of tough setbacks on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Spartans of Case Western Reserve in the final doubleheader of the six-game series. The Tigers fell in game one 14-7, Wittenberg dropped the final game of the series by a narrow 8-5 margin. Wittenberg collected 21 hits on the day, with 12 coming in the second game of the day. Five different Tigers tallied two hits in the second game for the Red and White with Tanner Boros and Luke Thomas each recording a pair of doubles, along with Jack Hollinshead adding on an extra-base hit.

Game Breakdown

Case jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings of action in game one. Wittenberg was able to drive in their first run in the top of the third. The Tigers added two more in the fifth, as Ryan Probst drove home Matt Moore for the first Wittenberg run of the inning. A Hollinshead single to right scored the second Tiger run. After the Spartans responded with seven runs in the fifth, Wittenberg pushed across just four runs through the final four innings of action.

Wittenberg captured an early 2-0 lead after the first inning of game two, starting with a double to left from Hollinshead scoring Probst. A miscue by the Spartan defense later in the inning allowed Hollinshead to come home for the second Wittenberg run. Case responded with six runs between the second and fourth inning. Wittenberg posted a three-run sixth inning, starting with an RBI double down the line in left from Thomas to score Boros. An RBI single by Chase Whisner brought home Thomas for another Wittenberg run. Patrick Kenny ripped a single into left to bring home Whisner for the third Wittenberg run.

UP NEXT

Wittenberg will return to action opening up NCAC play on Wednesday, April 7 hosting Ohio Wesleyan for a two-game series from Carleton Davidson Stadium. First pitch is set for 4:30 pm.
