Tigers Complete Season Sweep Of Wilmington

Wilmington, Ohio – The Wittenberg University baseball team completed the season sweep of Wilmington College with a 6-5 win over the Quakers from the road on Wednesday evening. The Tigers played their fourth game in just three days, after splitting an NCAC series with the Lords on Monday and dropping a hard-fought non-conference battle to Ohio Northern on Tuesday evening at home. Wittenberg got back to their winning ways, collecting 13 hits and scoring in five separate innings in the game. Patrick Kenny fueled the Tiger offense, going 3 for 4 from the plate with two RBI's and a run scored for the Red and White.  With seven different Tigers finishing with a hit on the night, Jack Hollinshead drove in a pair of runs for Wittenberg, finishing the game 3 for 4 from the plate with a run scored.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg came back from an early 3-0 deficit after the first inning, scoring in back-to-back innings starting in the top of the second. Mason Davis put the Tigers on the board with a double to right center, bringing around Kenny for the first Wittenberg run, and cutting the Wilmington advantage to 3-1. Hollinshead drove in his first run of the game with a single to right in the top of the third, bringing home Ryan Probst to bring the Tigers within one run. Wilmington added a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning, taking their lead out to 4-2. Wittenberg responded in the top of the fifth, as Kenny drove in the third Tiger run with a single to right center and scoring Probst for a second time. After the final Wilmington run crossed in the bottom of the sixth inning, Wittenberg added two runs in the top of the seventh. Hollinshead drove in the first run with an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Matt Baker, before a single by Kenny to left field brought in Hollinshead for the second run of the inning. A single by Matt Baker through the right side brought home David Hamrick for the final Tiger run in the top of the eighth.

As the two sides battled back and forth on the night, Adam Mays would come on to get the win for the Red and White, tossing three innings of scoreless two-hit ball with one strikeout.

Wittenberg will travel to Allegheny on Saturday, April 27 to take on the Gators in an NCAC doubleheader set to start at 12:00 PM.
