Springfield, Ohio – After rain pushed back the Wittenberg baseball series against the Lords of Kenyon College over the weekend. The Tigers hosted their NCAC foe from Carleton Davidson Stadium on Monday evening for two games, falling in the first game by a score of 6-1. Wittenberg bounced back in game two, collecting seven hits and scoring in six separate innings on their way to taking the game two win from the Lords by run-rule decision in eight innings, 11-1. As the Tigers delayed the celebration of Senior Day, they celebrated one lone senior Matt Baker who finished the second game 1 for 4 from the plate with two RBI's and two runs scored for the Red and White.

Game One Breakdown

Kenyon was the first to strike, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. David Hamrick brought the game back to even at 1-1 with a single up the middle, bringing around Patrick Kenny for the lone Tiger run of the first game. After a scoreless third and fourth inning, the Lords posted four runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead out to 5-1, before sealing the win with one run in the ninth.

Jace Barga took the hill to start the series for the Red and White, tossing four and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts and allowing seven hits.

Game Two Breakdown

With the only Kenyon run coming in the top of the second inning, Wittenberg posted five consecutive scoring innings starting with three runs crossing in the bottom half of the third. Baker led off the scoring rally with a single up the middle to bring around Ryan Probst for the first Wittenberg run of the game. Jack Hollinshead followed up with a single to center field to score Gabe Stacy, before Jack Siefert capped off the scoring rally with a sharply hit groundball to the left side and bringing around Baker. Probst extended the Tiger advantage in the bottom of the fourth by executing the sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Mason Davis and giving Wittenberg the 4-1 lead. Two more Tiger runs crossed in the fifth inning, starting when Siefert came home on the Kenyon wild pitch. Probst followed up with a two-RBI single down the left field line, taking the Tiger lead out to 7-1 at the end of the fifth inning. Wittenberg added two runs in the sixth inning, giving the Red and White the 9-1 lead heading into the seventh. One run would cross in the seventh and eighth, as Wittenberg sealed the 11-1 win over the Lords in game two.

Tanner Griggs tossed seven and two-thirds innings of three-hit ball for the Red and White, finishing with 13 strikeouts to his credit.
