Crestview Hills, Ky. – The Wittenberg baseball team kept the offense alive in a midweek showdown from the road against the Saints of Thomas More College. The Tigers 10 runs over four innings to pick up the 10-2 road win over the Saints. Logging nine hits on the afternoon, Wittenberg exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth inning, extending their 4-1 lead out to 10-1. Junior Patrick Kenny fueled the Tiger offense, going 4 for 4 from the plate, and driving in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second. With this win, Wittenberg improves to 13-8 on the season.

Game Breakdown

After a scoreless first inning, Wittenberg posted two runs in the top of the second, following the Kenny sacrifice fly. Matt Baker came around to score after stealing second and taking advantage of the error by the Thomas More center fielder. Jack Hollinshead kept his back hot in the third inning, driving in Gabe Stacy on the RBI single up the middle for the third Tiger run of the game. Ryan Probst put the fourth Tiger run on the board with a single to left, advancing to second on the throw, while Kenny came around to score. Hollinshead got the scoring rally started in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right to bring home Stacy. Kenny followed up with a two-RBI double to right center, bringing around Jack Siefert and Hayden Knox. Probst later reached on the fielder's choice, while Mason Davis came home to score the fourth Wittenberg run of the inning. A double by David Hamrick brought home Probst and Kenny to cap off the six-run scoring rally in the fifth by the Tigers.

Jace Barga took the hill to start the game for the Red and White, tossing two and a third innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. Rusty Hayhurst came on to pick up with the win, putting in four and two-thirds innings of work, striking out five with just four hits allowed. Matt Shanor, Andrew Juelg and Mitchell Davis would combine to close out the game for the Tigers over the final two innings, as Juelg and Davis would strike out a batter each without allowing any hits.

UP NEXT

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, April 13 to take on the Yeomen of Oberlin College in an NCAC showdown. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM. The Tigers will return home on Sunday, April 14 to battle the Bulldogs of Adrian College in a single game from Carleton Davidson Stadium at 2:00 PM.
