Sewanee, Tenn. – The Wittenberg University baseball team continued their winning ways in the first game of the series against the Tigers of Sewanee: The University of the South. Wittenberg would end up splitting the day, taking game one by a final score of 8-6 before falling in the second game of the doubleheader 3-2 in six innings, as the game was called due to darkness. The Red and White collected 12 hits in the first game of the series, including three extra-base hits, coming from Matt Baker, Mason Davis and Patrick Kenny. Six different Tigers recorded an RBI in the first game against Sewanee.

Game One Breakdown

Sewanee took the early 2-0 lead after the first inning, though Wittenberg would not be kept off the board for long, striking back by drawing the bases loaded walk in the top of the second inning to cut the Sewanee lead in half. Wittenberg added three runs in the third inning, starting with a two-RBI double to right-center by Davis, scoring Hayden Knox and Jack Hollinshead. Kenny capped of the Wittenberg scoring rally in the third inning with a double to right, bringing home Davis. The Tigers added one run in the fourth inning, capitalizing on the Hollinshead sacrifice fly. Sewanee brought things back to even adding a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning. An RBI single up the middle by Hollinshead pushed the Red and White back ahead, until Sewanee knotted the game back up at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth. Wittenberg sealed the win adding two runs in the top of the ninth, with a Knox sacrifice fly to score Probst, before Carpenter took an inside pitch with the bases loaded and bringing in the final Tiger run.

Logan Wiggenhorn took the hill to start the game for the Red and White, tossing four innings and striking out two. Adam Mays earned the win, throwing two innings of shutout ball and striking out one.

Game Two Breakdown

Wittenberg fell 3-2 in a hard-fought second game that was called off in the sixth inning of action due to darkness. The Red and White tallied three hits through six innings, while Baker made his way on base twice with a hit and walk, and making his way around the bases twice for both Wittenberg runs. Tanner Griggs tossed two innings to start the game, making way for Matt Shanor to put in an inning and two-thirds worth of work. Aaron Fasano closed out the game recording the only two strikeouts for the Red and White in the final game against Sewanee.
