Greensboro, N.C. – The Wittenberg University baseball team closed out their 2018 North Carolina trip with one final game against the Quakers of Guilford College. Wittenberg fell in the final game of the trip 7-2. It was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings, as the game allowed just four hits between the two sides. The Tiger's had plenty of offensive opportunities, putting runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth inning. Jack Siefert tallied two of Wittenberg's five hits on the afternoon. The Tiger's return home going 3-3 over their six games on Spring Break in North Carolina, having swept all three from North Carolina Wesleyan.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

Wittenberg got on the board in the top of the ninth inning, starting with a Siefert single up the middle. After Greg Vanerstrom came on to pinch run for Siefert, Patrick Kenny put another Tiger runner aboard with a single to center field. A Jack Hollinshead RBI single to left would bring in Vanerstrom for the first Wittenberg run of the day. With Jace Barga on the base path running for Hollinshead. Both Barga and Kenny would take a free base on the Guilford wild pitch. Mason Davis would bring home the final Wittenberg run on a sharp groundout to score Kenny.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

Tanner Griggs would get the start for Wittenberg in the final game of the trip, throwing seven innings of shutout ball. Griggs faced 24 Guilford hitters, striking out eight and allowing four hits. Adam Mays came in to face seven Quaker batters, giving up three hits in two-thirds innings pitched. Andrew Juelg gave up three hits against three batters faced as Parker Tietz faced two batters with one hit allowed.

UP NEXT: Wittenberg will return to action, traveling to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, March 17 for a two-game series starting at 12:00 PM. The Tiger's will make their home debut that Sunday, March 18 when they host Otterbein at 1:00 PM.
