Tigers Split With DePauw on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, OHIO—Wittenberg split with the Tigers of DePauw on Saturday to move to 3-3 in NCAC play in 2017. The Tigers have been swinging hot bats as of late, as the red and white dropped DePauw 9-6 in game one. Game two was a bit of a different story, as DePauw jumped out to an 8-0 lead before winning 9-4. Before Saturday's contests, the Tigers paid tribute to the senior class of 2017, Dalton Boucher and Josh Kaplan.

 

GAME ONE SCORING BREAKDOWN

 Bottom 3rd

 Bottom 4th

  • Timmy Bates got a pitch he could handle for the Tigers, sending a ball over the left field wall for a home-run.

Bottom 5th

  • Josh Kaplan grounded out to second-base, as Malott came around and scored for the second time.
  • Bates kept the inning going for the Tigers, lacing a double to left-field, plating Matt Baker.
  • On his senior day, Boucher doubled to center-field, scoring Bates on the play, giving the Tigers a 5-4 lead.

Bottom 6th

  • Kaplan broke the ice for Wittenberg again in the sixth, singling to center-field, scoring Malott.
  • Bates followed up Kaplan with a ball to right field that resulted in an error, scoring Kenny on the play.
  • Boucher singled to left-field, scoring Kaplan as the Tigers took a commanding 8-4 lead.

Bottom 7th

  • Kenny put the finishing touches on the game for Wittenberg, scoring Ryan Probst on a single to left-field.
 

GAME TWO SCORING BREAKDOWN

 Bottom 6th

  • Boucher got the Tigers on the board with a single to right field, scoring Bates, as Wittenberg then trailed 8-1.
  • Adam Mays rolled a single over to left-field, scoring Boucher, as Wittenberg cut into DePauw's lead.

Bottom 8th

  • Boucher homered to right field, scoring Kaplan, as the Tigers trailed 9-4.
KEY STATS
  • Jonathon Forster scattered nine hits in 5.2 innings of work on Saturday as the game one winner.
  • Bates has recorded nine hits, eight RBI's and four extra-base hits in the Tigers first six NCAC contests.
  • Wittenberg's 3-3 NCAC start is the team's best record out of the gates in conference play since 2013.
