Tigers Beat St. Vincent 5-3 for McGee's First Win as Head Coach

AUBURNDALE, Florida—Wittenberg baseball clawed out Head Coach Brian McGee's first win as skipper of the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers squared off against St. Vincent, and won the nine-inning contest 5-3. Sophomore slugger Marshall Eippert had a perfect day at the plate for the Tigers, going four-for-four and driving in a run, while the Tigers utilized a big four-run sixth inning offensively. The Tigers also reaped the benefits from Jace Barga's first start of the year, as the sophomore earned the win after going seven solid innings, scattering seven hit and one earned run, while striking out six.

SCORING BREAKDOWN

 Bottom 6th

  • Wittenberg entered the frame trailing 3-0, but managed to get on the board when Dalton Boucher laced a ball to shortstop, drawing a wild throw to first that plated Eippert.
  • Adam Mays picked up an RBI to make the game 3-2 after singling to left-field, plating Boucher.
  • Freshman infielder Ryan Probst put the finishing touches on the inning, singling to right field, scoring Mays and Noble Moore, as the Tigers took a 4-3 lead.

Bottom 7th

  • Eippert picked up his lone RBI off of a screamer to center-field, plating senior Josh Kaplan, as the Tigers took a 5-3 lead.  

KEY STATS

  • Boucher picked up the two-inning save in relief of Barga, as the senior southpaw tossed two scoreless frames for Wittenberg, holding St. Vincent hitless.
  • Timely hitting helped the Tigers give Coach McGee his first victory at Wittenberg, while St. Vincent's defense committed six errors in the contest.
  • Despite not drawing a single walk at the plate, Wittenberg managed to only strikeout twice as a team, and leave seven runners on base.
