SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—On a cold wintry afternoon, the Tigers welcomed the Little Giants of Wabash to Carleton-Davidson stadium as both teams looked to move up in NCAC play. Entering Sunday's double-header, both programs sat 2-2 in the conference after opening weekend splits against Ohio Wesleyan University for Wabash, and DePauw for Wittenberg. The Tigers struggled in game one against Wabash's starter, as the home team was blanked 9-0 in the seven-inning game. Game two was a different story for the Tigers, as the team found themselves in a 6-6 tie in the tenth inning before Wabash managed to jump out in front for good on a wall-scraping home run to left field. The sweep puts the Tigers at a 6-12 mark in 2016, with a 2-4 NCAC record.
GAME ONE NOTES
- The Tigers mustered up six hits in the loss, striking out six times and walking once.
- Despite the score, Wittenberg threatened to score in nearly every inning of game one, stranding seven runners on base when it was all said and done.
- Will Cousins (Medfield, Massachusetts/Medfield) smashed two hits in the loss, as the senior catcher led the Tiger offense.
GAME TWO NOTES
- The Tigers bounced back from a tough opening series game Sunday afternoon, jumping out to a 5-3 lead through the first five innings.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers allowed Wabash to jump out to a 6-5 lead, before Jace Barga (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) grounded into a fielders-choice, scoring senior Corey Farnbauch (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) to knot things up at six.
- In the top of the tenth inning, Wabash broke the tie on a home-run, as the Tigers failed to cash in in the bottom of the tenth.
KEY STATS
- Barga, Dalton Boucher (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and Josh Kaplan (Northbrook, Illinois/Glenbrook North) all recorded three hits for Wittenberg in game-two, none bigger than Boucher's three-run blast in the bottom of the fifth.
