SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers and the Kenyon Lords opened the final weekend of the 2014 season with a doubleheader split on the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Crossover Weekend.

The Lords opened with a 19-hit barrage to claim a 13-4 victory, but Wittenberg answered with a rally to claim an 11-10 victory. The two teams will play one final nine-inning game on Sunday, also at Wittenberg's Carleton Davidson Stadium. Wittenberg will head into that game with records of 11-28 overall and 4-14 in the NCAC, while Kenyon is now 12-24 overall and 3-15 in the NCAC.

In the opener, Kenyon jumped on the Tigers with three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead. By the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lords held a commanding 13-1 advantage before the Tigers rallied to score three times.

Senior Alex Lochard (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) made his first career start and allowed six hits and one walk for three earned runs in four innings. At the plate, seniors Tyler Grau (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) and David Moore (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) led with two hits apiece, while senior Tyler Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio/Cincinnati Moeller) hit a home run.

Game 2 was a slugfest, as the two teams combined for 27 hits. Hutchinson hit his second home run of the doubleheader and drove in four runs, Grau pounded a career-best four hits and drove in a pair, and junior Zac Wilson (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

On the mound, freshman Jon Ellerbrock (Tipp City, Ohio/Bethel) made his first career start before giving way to sophomore Jordan Hitt (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern). The final two relievers factored into the decision as junior Frank Sullivan (Milford, Ohio/Milford) picked up the win with 3.1 innings of three-hit, one-run baseball, and senior Jonathan Long (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) closed with two-thirds of an inning to earn the save.
