
TIFFIN, Ohio — The Wittenberg baseball team sent eight different pitchers to the mound against Heidelberg as the Student Princes banged out 18 hits in a 14-6 win over the visiting Tigers.
The loss dropped Wittenberg, which started the year with nine wins in 10 Spring Break games, to .500 on the season overall at 19-19. Heidelberg improved to 20-15. The Tigers will conclude the 2012 campaign with a home game against Ohio Northern, their sixth Ohio Athletic Conference opponent of the season, on Thursday, April 26.
Heidelberg broke the game open with six runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead. Wittenberg answered with six runs over the final four innings, but the Student Princes answered with four of their own to maintain a healthy advantage.
Offensively, the Tigers banged out 10 hits in the game, led by senior Matt Hampp (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) with a 3-for-5 performance, including two RBIs and one run scored. Senior Graham Wolff (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) added two hits, one run and one RBI.
Also of note, sophomore Tyler Grau (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) came off the bench to drive in a pair with a pinch-hit homer in the sixth inning.
