
COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the second time in a week, the Wittenberg Tigers won a back-and-forth affair against Capital University. After defeating the Crusaders 8-7 on March 15 in Springfield, the Tigers scored two runs in the eighth inning to defeat Capital 7-6 in Columbus exactly one week later.
Wittenberg is now 13-3 on the season, while Capital is 10-6.
The Tigers moved out to a 4-1 lead through the first four innings before Capital rallied to tie the score in the sixth. The Crusaders then took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh, only to see the Tigers rally for a second straight week, scoring runs on a squeeze bunt by freshman Zac Wilson (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) and a sacrifice fly by senior Matt Hampp (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson).
Manufacturing a pair of late runs made a winner out of senior Ted Skalla (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), who went 1.2 innings in relief. He gave way to seniorBrad Prewitt (Westerville, Ohio/South), who earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Seven different Tigers finished with at least one base hit, led by sophomoreBrandon Jordan (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca). He went 3-for-3 and scored three runs, while also contributing a stolen base.
Sophomore Alex Lochard (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney), junior Grant Goodwin (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson), Wilson and junior Graham Wolff (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest)added two hits apiece. Wolff and sophomore David Moore (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) each, while freshman Brandon Reaman (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) scored a pair.
