First NCAC Weekend Ends With Pair Of Losses At DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to DePauw, wrapping up the first weekend of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action with a pair of one-run losses to the 26th-ranked Tigers (Collegiate Baseball).

Wittenberg dropped the decisions on margins of 4-3 in Game One and 7-6 in Game Two, falling to 13-7 overall and 0-4 in NCAC West competition.

Game One's starting pitcher, junior Kevin Tolle (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont), tossed six innings and held DePauw to three runs, only one earned, on 10 hits for a no-decision.

The Wittenberg offense banged out six hits, including a 2-for-3, two RBI outing by junior Grant Goodwin (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) and one RBI from senior Tim Little (Broadview, Ill./Kenwood Academy) on a 1-for-3 day at the plate.

In Game Two, Wittenberg put together 14 hits and tied the game 5-5 in the top of the seventh, but DePauw responded with a two-run inning, and Wittenberg's one run in the top of the eighth could not make up the gap.

Four Tigers had two hits in the game, including freshman Brandon Reaman (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont), senior Matt Hampp (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson), juniorZach Finke (Maineville, Ohio/St. Xavier) and sophomore David Moore (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe).

Reaman, Hampp and Finke all accounted for an RBI each, joined by juniorGraham Wolff (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Bluff), sophomore Cam Chambers (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) and sophomore Alex Lochard (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney).
