CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Wittenberg Tigers left their bats on the bus in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) West Division rival Wabash. The result was a pair of dominating Little Giant wins by scores of 7-1 and 8-0.
The Tigers, who managed just six hits in each game, fell to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC West, heading into a Sunday doubleheader at Wabash. The Little Giants are now 9-11 overall and 5-1 in the NCAC West.
Not only did the Tigers struggle offensively, but two of the three pitchers Wittenberg sent to the mound were hit hard. Just as importantly, the Tigers committed five errors in the two games, although just one of Wabash's 15 runs was charged as unearned.
The Tigers' lone run was scored by junior Stefan Kegler (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) on a sacrifice fly in the second inning of the opener by freshman Zac Daniels (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson). Kegler and freshman Grant Goodwin (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) both turned in multi-hit games in the opener, but no Tiger player collected more than base hit in the nightcap. Of note, Wittenberg finished the doubleheader with just one hit that wasn't a single - a double by Kegler in the opener.
