Tigers Move Past .500 Mark With Big Win At Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers continued their midseason turnaround and gave themselves the best possible tune-up for the biggest weekend so far in the 2009 season with a convincing 11-4 victory at Capital.

The win moved Wittenberg above .500 for the first time since the first week of the season at 10-9 overall. Since a 2-7 start, Wittenberg is 8-2 in its last 10 games, heading into a crucial North Coast Athletic Conference West Division four-game series at Denison on Saturday and Sunday.

The offense continued to make life easier on Wittenberg's deep pitching staff. The Tigers broke out for 15 hits, including three doubles and a home run. Leading the way was sophomore Stefan Kegler (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), who went 4-for-5, with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Among his four hits were a double and a home run.

Also enjoying multi-hit games were sophomore Ray Noe (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), sophomore Tyler James (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater), junior A.J. Bush (Troy, Ohio/Troy) and sophomore Zach Spring (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty). Spring also scored three runs in support of seven Tiger pitchers who combined to limit Capital to four runs on eight hits. Most importantly, the Crusaders were unable to put together a big inning, scoring one run in four different innings.
