SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers wrapped up the 2007 Wittenberg Tournament on a down note Sunday with a 14-2 loss to visiting John Carroll.
The Tigers fell to 6-5 on the season after going 1-2 in the annual home event. Wittenberg returns to action Wednesday with a road trip to Transylvania.
This one went downhill quickly for the Tigers as John Carroll scored eight runs in the first two innings, seven of them off Wittenberg starter Tim Antil (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville). Just three of them were earned, however, as the first of the Tigers' five errors on the day proved costly.
Offensively, the Tigers managed little in the nine-inning game, outside of the five combined hits between leadoff hitter Jeremey Fruhwirth (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) and sophomore Jacob Michael (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) in the No. 2 spot. Fruhwirth finished with two hits and a run scored, while Michael went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
The Blue Streaks struggled defensively as well, as they committed four errors. But the Tigers managed six hits, compared to 17 for JCU.
