Wittenberg Crushes Wentworth Twice

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - In a tremendous display of offensive firepower, the Wittenberg Tigers pounded Wentworth 17-2 and 12-1 to sweep a Spring Break trip doubleheader.

Wittenberg outhit Wentworth by a staggering 32-10 in the two games. The Tigers climbed over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 4-3.

In the opener, junior Tyler McClain turned in a solid pitching performance, going six innings for the win while allowing only a pair of unearned runs. At the plate, eight Tigers collected two or more hits in the game, which was broken open with a 10-run sixth inning. Nine of Wittenberg's 18 hits went for extra bases. Sophomore Tyler Christello, sophomore Jon Fox and sophomore Matt Steinke each collected three RBI in the game.

The nightcap went pretty much according to form as the Tigers scored at least one run in six of the seven innings, while sophomore Trey Richardson and freshman Chris Green combined to shut Wentworth down to just four hits and one unearned run. The Tigers took advantage of three Wentworth errors and collected seven stolen bases in the game. Freshman Patrick Williams and junior Andrew Wellman pounded out three hits each, while senior K.R. Schlievert drove in three.
