Tigers Take Two In Key AMCC Road Weekend

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's volleyball team picked up two more AMCC wins from the road over the weekend. The Tigers started the day with a quick straight win over Thiel College 3-0 [25-21, 25-15, 25-18], before moving on to take down PSU-Behrend 3-2 [25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10] in the final match of the day. The Wittenberg attack was led by Ashton Sellers on the day, logging 26 kills on 43 swings over the two matches. Sellers would also add three blocks on the afternoon for the Red and White. Through eight sets on the day, Wittenberg kept a positive hitting percentage, finishing the first match with a .277 attacking percentage and closing out the five-set match against PSU-Behrend with a .247 hitting percentage. After picking up two key AMCC road wins, Wittenberg moves to 16-10 on the season and 8-3 in AMCC action.

Match One Breakdown

The Tigers opened the match with a .176 hitting percentage, logging 12 kills on 34 total attacks. Sellers started the day recording nine kills on 16 total attacks for a .375 kill percentage. Isaiah Brock got up for eight kills on 16 swings, finishing with a .438 kill percentage, adding four blocks in the first match of the day. Collin Buelow put down five kills on nine total attacks without an error for a .556 attacking percentage to start the day, adding two aces and a block to his credit. Ross Russell facilitated the offense with 17 assists while Noah Wissel followed up with 14.

Match Two Breakdown

As the second match went the distance, the Tigers were led by Sellers with 17 kills on 27 swings recording a .481 attack percentage to close out the day. Deion Woodson came alive in the second match, logging 15 kills on 39 attack attempts for a .333 kill percentage while coming up with six digs. Brock posted nine kills on 19 swings for a .263 kill percentage in the final match of the day, adding four blocks up front for the Red and White. As the match came down to the wire, Wittenberg held PSU-Behrend to a -.091 attacking percentage in the final set of the match.

From The Bench

"We are very happy to pick up two crucial conference wins to keep us in the hunt. We showed extreme focus in our match against Thiel this morning in the 3-0 sweep. We were then able to gut out a tough five-set battle against a good Behrend team," said Head Coach Ryan Thompson.
