A 1962 graduate with a master's degree earned in 1965, Gary Tranquill was a four-year letterman in football and baseball and was named Little All-America quaterback his junior year. His senior year, he won the Mike Gregory Award as the top offensive back in the Ohio Athletic Conference. In baseball, he played on two OAC and two NCAA regional championship teams. He was an assistant football coach for seven years under Bll Edwards at Wittenberg, and was then assistant at Ball State, Bowling Green, U.S. Naval Academy, Ohio State and West Virginia University. He became the 31st head football coach of the U.S. Naval Academy on January 4, 1982.
