William "Bill" Lange

From Hall of Honor press release dated May 27, 1987:

William Lange, who died in 1953, was an All-Ohio tackle on the undefeated Wittenberg teams of 1918, 1919 and 1920. He was also an All-Ohio basketball player at Wittenberg and went on to play professionally with the Cleveland Rosenblums of the American Basketball League.

The 1921 Wittenberg graduate is already a member of the Muskingum athletic hall of fame. Lange had a coaching record of 76-35-6 in football and 132-95 in basketball at Muskingum and served as the Muskies' athletic director for 13 years. Lange coached high school sports at London, Mount Vernon, and Cleveland Polytechnic and college sports at Kenyon and the University of North Carolina. As head basketball coach at UNC, Lange led the Tarheels to their first National Invitational Tournament in Madison Square Garden.
