Tony Wilcox, a 1960 graduate, was an All-American center on the Wittenberg basketball squad. The 6-foot-7 center averaged 15 points per game for the Tigers, who were frequently ranked in the nation's Top Ten during the Wilcox era. He was on the all-Lutheran and all-conference teams and Wittenberg never lost a home game while Wilcox played. In addition to his basketball prowess, Wilcox set school records in high jump (6-6) and long jump (23-11 3/4) for Wittenberg's track team.

After Wittenberg, Wilcox joined the Harlem Globetrotters and made two world tours with the famous team. He coached basketball and track at Addison Junior High School in Cleveland for five years before becoming assistant basketball coach at Case Western Reserve. He is presently basketball coach at Cleveland East High School and took East to the Ohio Class AAA final four in 1985.
